Beautiful Things: Piaget Limelight Gala, Ultimate Sparkle High Jewelry Watch for Women

Piaget Limelight Gala
The Limelight Gala Precious features 174 diamonds and 22 tsavorites and took 22 hours to create, including the case and gem setting. It is powered by the Manufacture automatic movement 501P1, which is visible through the sapphire caseback.
With its radiant design and audacious mix of different diamond cuts, the iconic Piaget Limelight Gala wristwatch becomes a work of high jewellery art in this new Limelight Gala High Jewellery edition. For the ultimate sparkle, brilliant, baguette, and marquise-cut gem cuts capture and reflect light in different ways. Piaget’s Limelight Gala High Jewellery and Limelight Gala Precious shine brightly, ready to begin their sparkling and illuminating journey on the wrists of their new owners. Both pieces attest to Piaget’s long history of excellence and identity in the world of jewellery watches.
Artful Stone Setting
The Limelight Gala High Jewellery timepiece is much more than a jewellery watch; it is the result of decades of high-level goldsmithing and gem-setting experience. Over 175 hours of high jewellery expertise are required to complete just one timepiece, which includes over 250 diamonds. The case and the fully integrated and articulated diamond-set bracelet, both made of 18-karat white gold, hug the wrist like a second skin. The mix of diamond cuts, combined with a medley of setting techniques, lends the timepiece a decidedly modern appearance. A claw setting for the marquise-cut diamonds, a snow setting on the dial, a channel setting for the baguette-cut diamonds, and a grain setting for the brilliant-cut diamonds on the bracelet are used to meticulously position over 250 diamonds.
At Piaget, in the “Atelier de l’Extraordinaire”, where the High Jewellery creations are set, the Maison’s gem setters are constantly experimenting with new ideas, following the Maison’s motto to “Always do better than necessary”, especially when trying different types of settings that will reflect the light in different ways.
Stone setting is the art of bringing a jewel to life by adorning it with gems. The jeweller will go to great lengths to highlight the gemstone’s brilliance, colour, and unique beauty. This is the most difficult operation in the goldsmith’s trade, requiring a very special type of expertise and years of experience that is both technical and highly artistic. To create the ideal setting, the gem-setter adjusts and fixes each stone, enhancing its beauty while maintaining the design’s harmony and allowing the stones to shine. The setting will be chosen based on its functionality as well as its aesthetic design. The type of gem, its fragility, transparency, cut, and size are all carefully chosen for maximum effect.
Key Piaget Code: the Marquise Diamond Cut
In terms of Piaget’s design codes, the Marquise cut is perhaps the most important. According to legend, France’s King Louis XV requested that a diamond be cut in honour of his beloved Marquise de Pompadour’s smile. This new cut allowed light to shine from the gemstone’s centre, giving it a distinct brilliance. Because radiance is so important to Piaget, this one-of-a-kind cut has become a signature for the Maison and can be found on many of its creations. From the very first Haute Joaillerie patrimony collections to the extravagant jewellery watches created in the 1960s, and many of Piaget’s contemporary creations today, the Marquise cut has remained a Maison favourite.

Taking Time to Find the Right Tsavorites
Finding beautifully coloured tsavorites (a variety of garnet) with a round brilliant cut is difficult. This is because the round brilliant cut is designed to maximise brilliance, which is not usually desired in coloured stones where you want to emphasise the internal colour, making this cut extremely difficult to find. Piaget had these gemstones custom-cut for this reason. The tsavorites were chosen to have the same number of facets as the diamonds for an elegant and harmonious setting that does not? sacrifice the intensity of the colour or light.
It takes several months to find and select the perfect stones for the best gradient. The Maison’s gemmologists must not only create the ideal gradient for each watch, but they must also match the gradients to each timepiece in the collection. Piaget values the art of colour pairing and shading, and this particular colour gradient was chosen to provide a strong contrast with the malachite dial.
The Bracelet
The timepiece is paired with Piaget’s signature engraved Palace Décor bracelet, which has a texture similar to that of a haute couture gown. Piaget has been perfecting the art of assembling bracelet links for decades.
