LTI is in the ideal position to deliver the inside track on this year’s luxury hotel openings –
LTI – Luxury Travel Intelligence has nine highly experienced and discerning experts covering the globe, they thoroughly research every property, on their own dollar, and they are passionate about what they do. LTI gives honest and unbiased opinions, to bring truth to luxury travel. This year, they visited 62 new hotels, and discovered several stand-out properties. According to LTI, only six hotels disappointed them enough to make their Worst list, which is a great improvement on 2014 they state, when they had no problem identifying ten candidates.
So, who got it right this year? This is the LTI – Luxury Travel Intelligence best luxury hotels of 2015 (announced in reverse order).
THE BEST LUXURY HOTELS OF 2015
10. Gansevoort, Dominican Republic
A real success story from a brand that occasionally gets it wrong. Wonderful location, superb accommodations, plus warm and friendly service. A resort to watch.
9. Six Senses, Douro Valley
This former Aquapura resort has had a major refurbishment and total enhancement, to create a magical new property. Great management (formerly at Four Seasons), impressive accommodations, a wonderful spa and staff who are keen to please, make this an all round success.
8. La Fiermontina, Puglia
A wonderful transformation of a 17th century house surrounded by olive trees and located within the ancient stone walls of Lecce. Just 16 rooms and suites formed from local stone, with contemporary furnishings. A very special property.
7. Sujan Rajmahal Palace, Jaipur
Still owned by the royal family of Jaipur, this small and opulent palace has been transformed into the ultimate luxury boutique hotel, with just 15 suites and rooms (more to follow).
6. Temple House, Chengdu
From the same team who created the wonderful Upper House in Hong Kong and Beijing’s Opposite House. Superb accommodations, great dining and an attentive English speaking staff, make this property an instant hit.
5. Reverie Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City
An uber luxurious and opulent property, with a wild mix of Italian influenced colours and styles (but it works). Impressive spa, multiple fine dining options and spacious accommodations add to the wow factor. We need more exciting and entertaining new openings like this – there has been too much understated and beige for the past few years.
4. Villa Rene Lalique, Alsace
With just six suites and an exceptional fine dining restaurant, this new venture has kept a pretty low profile since opening. Owned by the crystal brand Lalique, it is only right the property is adorned with many unique and tasteful Lalique pieces. A truly exceptional 20,000-bottle wine cellar completes the picture.
3. Aman, Tokyo
The first urban venture from Aman, many wondered if they could pull this off. Well, they certainly have, by creating a beautiful oasis, perched high above Tokyo’s skyline. Spacious accommodations in classic Aman style, a wonderful spa and pool, plus great dining have created what could go on to be one of the world’s best urban hotels.
2. Sant Francesc, Palma Mallorca
The perfect luxury boutique hotel, in the perfect ‘boutique’ European city, surrounded by high fashion brand boutiques – what is there not to like. Courteous staff, exceptional management and wonderful spacious accommodations complete the near perfect picture. Destined to become one of our favourite European city escapes.
And their Best new luxury hotel for 2015 is………………..
Mandarin Oriental – Marrakech
LTI has witnessed several high profile and impressive openings in Marrakech over the past few years, but now the Mandarin Oriental has come along, and trumped them all. It is stunning and faultless. They congratulate the management on ensuring everything was perfect before opening their doors (they frequently experience the opposite elsewhere, with some disastrous consequences). With just 34 spacious and highly impressive villas (starting at 3,100 square feet) set in 50 acres of lavishly landscaped grounds, plus a world class class spa, multiple dining options and a superb peaceful location, this property is hard to beat – therefore it fully deserves to be the LTI best new luxury hotel of 2015.
