Imagine an elegant evening in Tuscany of opera and wine, an enchanting event held on the private estate of Monterosola winery, overlooking the ancient hills of Volterra, Tuscany.
Monterosola will host its first ever operatic event on July 30th, 2022, at the height of the summer season, when the vines are growing tall and strong. This al-fresco opera, directed by world-renowned Australian director John Wregg, will take place on the terraces and cloistered courtyards that surround the cantina’s stone tower.
The desire to honour both the history and cultural heritage of this unique part of Tuscany is at the heart of Monterosola’s winemaking philosophy. These joyful events truly captivate the senses by bringing together unique experiences that celebrate wine, music, art, nature, and cuisine.
This summer’s opera is W.A.Mozart’s chamber opera Bastiano e Bastiana, a cautionary tale of rustic romance. The opera will be performed in the atmospheric setting of Monterosola Winery by Opere da Camera and Orchestra Sinfonica Florentia under the musical direction of Valentino Alfredo Zangara.
Dr. Anton Mesmer commissioned this chamber piece in 1768, and it was first performed in his garden in Vienna. Mozart was only 11 years old when he developed his musical style.
He wrote the libretto himself, based on two French plays.
This charming summer event combines the best organic wines with a lighthearted operatic performance in the heart of rural Tuscany. A wonderful evening of wine and music awaits!
