It’s hard to tell the outside from the inside at the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve and that’s by design. Located in the Patagonian rainforest of southern Chile, this property focuses on sustainable architecture and visually unique accommodations.
For instance the Montaña Mágica Lodge featuring windows from the twelve rooms peering through a grassy mountain shaped structure. You can also stay inside an area carved and spiraling like a big tree, the Nothofagus Lodge. This structure has fifty-five rooms and an incredible viewing terrace on the rooftop. No better spot to acknowledge that this fairytale location is real. While you are up there take a “selfie” with the volcano on the horizan and use the free wi-fi to share your photos with a friends and family. The newest property is the Reino Fungi Lodge shaped like a mushroom of course, in honor of the mushroom kingdom that breeds from the soil the reserve is on. For some real adventure you can stay at the award winning canopy village, which are cabins up in the trees reachable by raised bridges. Finally, the most luxurious of all the properties is the Nawelpi Lodge. This lodge contains twelve cabins completely sourced from the land. Enjoy a jacuzzi tub inside with a view or better yet, take a dip outside with the wood burning hot tub and listen to the sounds of the Fui river, as I experienced in my video tour of Huilo Huilo. I haven’t quite seen anything like it before… enjoy and permission to indulge!
