Rendez-Vous Dazzling Shooting Star
The Rendez-Vous Shooting Star, introduced in 2022, accomplishes the remarkable feat of encapsulating a random cosmic occurrence in a watchmaking complication. Inspired by the ephemeral beauty and rarity of shooting stars, Jaeger-LeCoultre created a novel mechanism, Calibre 734, that sends a star shooting across the watch dial at random periods, several times per hour. The dial is made of three layers, the first of which hides the shooting star when it is not in use. A round disc with a cut-out of the shooting star that streaks across the dial, when actuated by wrist motions, sits beneath it. The cut-out reveals a disc of flashing golden metal as the star passes, enhancing the feeling of movement.
