The company began by producing high quality outerwear that became a staple in the British military. During WW1, Burberry first designed the beloved ‘Trench Coat’ for officers.

Who is ‘Burberry”?

Thomas Burberry founded the brand in 1856, when he was just 21 years old. The brand built its name during the second half of the 19th century, and throughout the 20th century it cemented its legacy. The ‘trench coat’ was developed in First World War and the Burberry check was introduced in the 1920’s. Today, the brand is an internationally distributed luxury house.

Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, today the house is an internationally recognized luxury brand that distributes worldwide. Chief creative director of the brand is Christopher Bailey and he has held this position since 2009.

Today the brand creates women’s wear, men’s wear, accessories, shoes and bags, children’s wear, house and home goods, fragrance and beauty.

The brand built itself on an image of ‘Britishness’ and the headquarters are still in London, England. Burberry has boutiques in 48 different countries and you can find the clothes in luxury department stores as well.
