While we can, and do, travel at all times of the year thanks to widely available modes of travel and a vast number of destinations both near and far, there is something special about vacationing in the summer. The summer vacation, most associated with the long break between summer and the September start of another school year is much anticipated by school children.  It was not always what it is today. In the past, children were in school year round and the time off was in seasons depending on farming families needs to have the kids at home to help out during spring planting and fall harvest seasons. There was no summer break. It wasn’t until the early 20th century when this long summer break was instituted. It was believed at the time that children kept in school year round without a break would lead to ‘insanity’ and other ill effects that we now know are not true. Whether or not the school year returns to year-round remains to be seen meanwhile, the long languishing summer vacation where kids roamed, were free to play and be kids, basking in the sun and running about, making great memories remains and vacations themselves continues to evolve.

Times have changed. Summer vacations aren’t the typical layabout and lounge anymore, though it is highly recommended to lounge as much as you can. Today, vacations can look like anything you want them to. In fact, a growing trend is the exotic luxury vacation. Increasing demand for luxury travel at the best bargain for the experience with great value are sought after. The future of the summer vacation for the jet set luxury traveler is Europe, again, becoming the play area to those who want to travel.
