INTERVIEW Guilhem Eustache The Design of FOBE House, Morocco A client introduced me to a Belgian film director and producer who commissioned me to draw the plans of several houses on a property he had bought in Marrakech, Morocco. For many years, I had regularly visited Morocco. From my first trip, I was bewitched by the country and the three projects studied to date are certainly inspired, to varying degrees, by all the images and impressions gathered during my stays there. The main difficulty was to define the program with the client. Originally we had planned to build three houses on this site. In order to preserve the land and its stark landscape, the project gradually decreased in size to finally implement only the smallest of the three houses: the Fobe House. The client informed me that he had bought a second larger plot (5 hectares) located closer to the…

JEWELRY FOREVER Dearest Reader, From my earliest memory, I always had an affinity for jewelry. Not just because they were pretty, shiny and fetching but also because something within them captivated me; I felt a deep connection to gem stones. There within the glitter and baubles lies a soul in this little piece of the earth that we inhabit, something rarefied, hard to find and unearth amidst the rubble and dirt that lay around it. Then it takes careful mastery of an age-old craft to bring out the best in this tiny element that will adorn us, and likely be selected with purpose and passed on, one hopes, to generations after us. Fine jewelry represents a legacy and heritage to mankind and to our families, loves and lives. Jewelry is so much more than ornamentation; it is a reflection of the journey of man and of life. So with that…

Traditionally—and to this day—bread is incredibly important to French citizens. In the late 1700’s, at the time of the French revolution, bread was so significant to the people that riots would break out if there were shortages. In the middle ages, as towns and villages began to form in the French countryside, bakeries flourished through the making and selling of artisan bread. Since those times, certain French bakeries have become famous for their delicious product and fabulous service. Pôilane is one such bakery that is today expanding, and yet still staying true to its roots. Discover: The Famous Pôilane Bakery In 1932 Pôilane began with one baker who came to Paris from Normandy in order to open up his first shop. He was determined to bake the traditional sourdough loaves, rather than the more popular baguettes, despite the intense competition between bakeries in the area. Pierre Pôilane baked his bread in a…
