Ladurée Macarons

Origin of the French Macaron

This sweet meringue-based confection also called Luxemburgerli, the macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies. The name is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone or maccherone, the Italian meringue. A name synonymous with the macaron is LADURÉE.

About Ladurée

The tea room and Ladurée have an intimately tied history as gathering places for women. Founded by Louis Ernest Ladurée in 1862, a miller from Southwest France who created a bakery in Paris at 16 rue Royale. A fire was the catalyst to transform the space into a Pastry shop which was decorated by Jules Cheret a turn of the century poster artist and painter.

Popular Then and Now. A Timeless Classic!
