Seven Generations of The House of Creed
250 Years of Perfume: Brief History of The House of Creed
It all began in 1760 when James Henry Creed began as a custom tailor and leather goods maker to the English Royal Court, The House of Creed turned perfumer in 1780 when King George III—enamored by a pair of Creed scented gloves—commissioned Creed’s first royal fragrance: a rich mix of mandarin, ambergris and sandalwood, christened Royal English Leather.
The royal connection continued when Queen Victoria appointed The House of Creed the “official supplier” of fragrance to the British royal court in 1845, she too commissioned her very own perfume. The scent—Fleurs de Bulgarie—is distilled from the world’s finest roses and is still available to the public today. For 250 years, The House of Creed has been handcrafting fine fragrances in uncommon blends for discerning patrons and royal houses. Their history and legacy is long and rich taking; from their beginnings in London, now to outside Paris where they are based carrying on their tradition and commitment to excellence in fine fragrances.
From Royal to Renowned
This royal exclusivity continued until 1970—nearly two hundred years after the House’s very first fragrance was mixed—Creed made its private collection available commercially to an eager clientele from its flagship boutique in Paris’ well-heeled 8th arrondissement.
