Originating in the 15th century in the Renaissance courts of Catherine’s Medici, ballet developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia.

Influential globally two other dance genres and techniques, Classical ballet developed under Louis XIV who was a dancer and furthered this art form. In 1661, Louis XIV founded Acadamie Royale de Danse, Royal Dance Academy. In 1672 the Paris Opera was born. The direct style has evolved since its beginning; Russian, French, Italian, contemporary and neoclassical and Romantic, being the most popular, which includes a lot of on pointe work, female dancers, acrobatic movement and short white tutu’s. Ballet is the foundation of other dance forms.
