Nature gives us a spectacular show of color each fall with a palette of fiery red and golden yellow.

Weekend getaways to the countryside to take in the pastoral views is becoming more popular each year but the season is as short as 3-4 weeks so plan your trip ahead of time so as not to be disappointed.

NEW ENGLAND

Some of the most mesmerizing colors of fall can be found in New England, including New Hampshire’s White Mountain region. Take a self-guided tour through the Flume Gorge which includes a 2-mile walk overlooking the 800-foot long gorge. For the more adventurous nature lover, visit Bretton Woods for an afternoon of zip lining through the canopy of trees. Combined with the spectacular array of colors, this could be the quintessential fall trip. Stowe, Vermont is another spectacular region to visit for a fall showing of color. The picture postcard beauty of this small town with its country stores and whitewashed buildings is best viewed on a bike ride through the extensive trail in town.

NAPA VALLEY

While California does not immediately pop to mind when thinking of fall foliage, Napa Valley has an abundance of rolling hills covered with amber, crimson and orange grape leaves. Milder daytime temperatures, crunching leaves underfoot and a quiet tourism season make this a perfect time of year for a visit to the wineries.

THE LAURENTIAN MOUNTAINS, QUEBEC

This visit could well offer you the most spectacular array of fall colors anywhere in North America. Along with Quebec’s provincial tree, the Yellow Birch, there is also an amazing show of colour from the province’s Sugar Maple tree. Beginning the end of September you can celebrate the fall colors at Mount Tremblant’s Symphony of Color.
