Dutch designer and technologist Rein van der Mast is disrupting how fountain pens are made. Instead of relying on proven technology, in 2013 he started 3D printing titanium fountain pens and nibs which are now available in both 18K solid yellow and white gold. Spica Virginis, is his latest design, resembling an ear of grain and named after the brightest star in the constellation Virgo, where in ancient drawings the virgin holds a bundle of grain ears. In 18K yellow gold the color perfectly matches the color of grain. The pen is also available in 18K solid white gold.  “This type of white gold is developed for 3D printing, selective laser melting in particular. It is very white, and more importantly, it is very hard, eliminating the need for a rhodium coating.” He emphasizes that this is particularly useful for nibs. Van der Mast is the only one in the…

Armonia by Montegrappa is a pen of simplicity, rich in detail, slim in design. It is medium in length imparting a degree of subtlety and discretion, its cleanly-shaped barrel and cap in shiny, pitch-black resin and stainless steel trim makes an elegant impression. Its embellishments include a circumferential band around the lower section of the cap, which is engraved with the “Montegrappa” signature. The cap is also adorned with the brand’s 1912 symbol. Its pocket clip is sinuous, ending in the company’s rolling-ball that ensures smooth ingress and egress from a pocket. Available in the three formats of fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint, as preferred by the user. The fountain pen can employ both converter and cartridge filling systems. Its nib is enriched with a Greek fret etching and is offered in Fine, Medium and Broad writing grades. For more information visit www.montegrappa.com

Montegrappa’s diminutive arrival that’s proving difficult not to describe as “cute” or “adorable”! Based on the popular Fortuna family of pens, Felicitá is a more compact version, smaller in volume and ideal for any pocket, purse man-bag, hand-luggage and other holders with limited or reduced space. With a unisex design that is clean and modern, Felicitá is also better suited to the female hand than many full-sized pens. Because it is shorter than the full-sized Fortuna, Felicita’s dimensions ideally suit the space in a lady’s clutch. Felicitá’s cap and barrel are formed of delicately pearlised resin, with a choice of four colours: Sugar Pink Dust, Ocean Jellybon, Red Velvet and Caramel Gold. All are trimmed in stainless steel. The collection features on its cap end the 1912 monogram of Montegrappa, while the brand logo is laser-cut on the cap band. Felicitá is offered in all three of the most popular…

S.T. Dupont and Metaxas & Sins have collaborated on a special edition pen and lighter set for their “Haute Creation” using a very distinct and technically challenging design. The S.T. Dupont “HELIX” is a radical departure from the work of other artists featured in S.T. Dupont past collections  including  Picasso, Warhol and, Lagerfeld. According to artist Kostas Metaxas ” The main idea was to use geometric patterns and shapes that could never be considered for pen manufacturing since pens are traditionally machined on a spinning lathe and hence, shapes are limited to “tubes”. I wanted to break free from this and create a very personal sculpture that could also be used as a writing instrument.” “A fountain pen is one of those rare objects. It connects with us on so many levels. In our most creative mode, it is an extension of our mind which through gestures of our hand…
