On display at Address Downtown hotel in Dubai are impressively sized and distinctive five 8.5-metre-high paintings commissioned for the 63-storey by artist and designer Beth Nicholas. The paintings, which are located in the Address Downtown’s vast lobby, are illuminated from behind, further enhancing their impact; . beautifully hypnotic they draw you into the depths of their elegantly graceful fluidity. These dramatic artworks, executed in Nicholas’s signature style – swirling cosmoses of blues and whites, embellished with startling bursts of gold and silver – are the centrepiece of the newly-refurbished, 220-bedroom hotel, which opened this June 2018. Commissioned in 2017 through the art consultancy Soho Myriad, the paintings took three months to produce. Nicholas visited the hotel to oversee the installation, as she does for all her large-scale commissions. Chaumet is set to present the exhibition The Worlds of Chaumet, at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum of Tokyo, from June 28th to September 17, 2018 The exhibition features a new journey through its history, culture, savoir-faire and style. The historical link that the Maison has built with the Arts is echoed by the vocation of the most “European” of Japanese museums, dedicated to the fine and visual arts. AUCTIONS A series of panel designs that helped Alphonse Mucha establish himself as the master of Art Nouveau will appear in Swann Auction Galleries’ Vintage Posters sale on August 1 with an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000. “Times of the Day”, from 1899, was the fourth of six panel series that Mucha created from 1896 to 1902, starting with The Seasons and ending with The Moon and the Stars. In typical style, they depict beautiful young women draped loosely in flowing robes, surrounded by flowers in nature and framed with decorative motifs. Ranging from Morning Awakening (Eveil du Matin) to Rest at Night (Repos de Nuit), the four lithographs lead a Mucha offering at the Swann Galleries sale that also includes a poster for the 1921 Mucha Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum (estimate $10,000 to $15,000), as well as advertising posters for the Salon des Cents from 1896 and Bières…

Visitors to Versailles 1682–1789, a popular exhibit originally opened at the Château de Versailles in France, will move to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue in New York and will be on display from April 16–July 29, 2018.
